The Guesthouse Service was established in 1995, as a result of a chronic shortage of accommodation during the main annual events held in Bothaville. During that year the local hotel and a single guesthouse could offer accommodation to a mere 80 visitors, however, the Guesthouse Service managed to arrange additional accommodation with private home owners.

These facilities, together with a training programme, grading system, tariff structure and a central booking system, were developed and consolidated into the Guesthouse Project we have today.

The project grew to such an extent that the number of full-time guesthouses in Bothaville increased from 1 to 4 and the number of private guest facilities from 0 to almost 150. We are currently able to provide accommodation to approximately 5 000 visitors during the annual NAMPO Harvest Day.

At present the Guesthouse Project generates an annual turnover of almost R1,3 million. The ripple effect that this project has on other businesses in town has not as yet been quantified, but it clearly adds up to a considerable amount and provides a huge boost to the local economy.

In response to numerous requests guesthouses from neighbouring towns such as Potchefstroom, Orkney, Klerksdorp, Wesselsbron, Kroonstad and Welkom have also been affiliated with Bothaville Info, thus forming part of the Guesthouse Project.

Bothaville Info Guesthouse Project developed a four tier grading system for private home accommodation – from luxurious to more basic i.e. Golden Maize / White Maize / Yellow Maize / Green Maize – as seen below.
